If the answer is “it depends,” we say that. Ferrules are small. The weather around them is not.
Why did the collar swell after a week at Maumee Bay?
Nylon drinks lake humidity. Bargain stock that sat on a pegboard already had a head start. Once the ring takes on water it can look frosted, proud, or both. We recut or replace with cabinet-dry stock. The head is not always loose; the ring is just loud. Read the humidity note in the harbor log if you want the longer version.
Can you match a 1990s color band that was discontinued?
Sometimes. Tess keeps a vintage stripe tray labeled by decade. If the tray is empty for that undertone, we will not dye a black ring and hope. Dye never quite matches a molded band in daylight on the first tee. We will show you what we have before we cut.
Do you bore hosels or install adapter sleeves?
No. This pier is the collar. The socket, the sleeve, and how deep a shaft disappears into a head are another craft. If Marek sees a spinning sleeve, he will say so and stop before we sell you a decorative ring that hides a failed joint.
How long after a tip-in before I play in rain?
If we opened the joint, pick up the next open day. Then give it another quiet night if you can. A trunk ride in July rain while the fillet is still young is how collars crawl. Indoor league the same week is usually fine. A Saturday shotgun twelve hours after a Saturday 4:15 mix is not.
Will a longer collar change how the club swings?
A longer ring can add a gram or two at the joint. That is not a swingweight program. If you want mass, say mass. Do not ask us to leave the ferrule proud as a secret. Proud sit looks like a miss, because it is one.
Why does a cheap ferrule crack in January?
Indoor heat in Toledo winters is dry. Nylon that swelled in August then lives next to a furnace return will shrink and split, especially if it was already turned too thin. We see this on drivers stored in attics. Replace with dry stock, and do not leave the next one on a hot dashboard in February “to warm up.”
Can I wait in the room?
You can stand at the window. The lathe area is not a viewing gallery with chairs. If the job is a single turn that does not open the joint, you may have time for coffee on Superior Street. If we open the joint, go home. The hang rack is not a waiting room.
Do you teach the swing while the epoxy sets?
No. See lesson or collar. We turn rings. If you want a lesson, book a lesson somewhere that owns a bay. Mixing the two is how both jobs get sloppy.
